Wanda Tower Proposed
Without any advance publicity, a new tower was announced on July 9, 2014, and was covered by several news sources including this very comprehensive article in the Tribune:

We do not have permission to reproduce the article, however here is the link:

As we learn more about this proposal, NEAR will notify the 1300 neighbors on our mailing list, and will post the new information on this website for your reference.

The proposed tower will cover two lots in the Lakeshore East Development, and reportedly Magellan will retain a 10% interest in the property.  The building will bridge Lower Field Drive just south of Lower Wacker Drive.  It will be between the soon to be constructed GEMS-2 building and the Regatta.

The proposed building may be approved administratively by the Chicago Zoning and Planning Department as a "minor change" - similar to the "minor change" when the Aqua was increased from 670 feet to 900 feet, although the square footage remained the same.

We will monitor the review process to insure that the Pedway continues east of the GEMS-2 Concourse level.  Another potential concern will be maintaining access on Field Dr. to Lower Wacker during construction, assuming the proposed building will receive all necessary alderman, zoning, and building approvals.

How will the proposed Wanda Tower fit into the New Eastside?

Architecture buff Ryan Kremer has taken it upon himself to see generally how the new tower would fit in, and has created this mockup using 3D software and Google Earth.

Please excuse the poor quality of this graphic...it was over-enlarged to fit the page width...and gives some idea how this 1150-foot new building would fit into the Chicago skyline.  After the initial presentation on Monday, April 13, 2015, it will be replaced with the higher quality graphics normally  available a few days after the presentation.
